David Owens was born in 1945, a native Oregonian from John Day. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and Colorado Rocky Mountain School before attending college. In 1967, he entered the U.S. Army and was deployed to Vietnam. He served with the First Air Cavalry Division and received several personal awards. After completing his service, David attended Portland State University and started Lumber Transport, Inc. David would sell his interest in the business in 1972 in order to attend law school.

Since 1975, David has owned or shared an interest in a number of law firms until he formed his own firm. His thirty years of experience includes Business Litigation, Large Asset Domestic Relations, Real Estate, Bankruptcy, and Specialty Criminal Representation.
