Client hired a contractor to build a second-story addition onto his Portland home, which was originally built in 1924. Issues arose between the Client and the contractor regarding the quality and timeliness of the work being performed. David W. Owens represented Client in initiating private arbitration of the dispute. After months of preparation, the parties agreed to postpone the arbitration hearing so they could attempt mediation with a retired judge to resolve their issues. In mediation, Mr. Owens helped Client obtain a settlement resulting in a significant payment to him and a complete severance of his relationship with the contractor, leaving him free to hire a new contractor of his choice to complete the project to his satisfaction.
